Goal and purpose

Description of the supervisory duties of medical and nursing staff for the protection of patients, in particular infants, children, disorientated persons and the very elderly, with instructions for the supervision of these persons.
Protection from physical attacks by relatives, visitors, other patients or staff, including neglect, abuse and endangerment.
Particularly vulnerable groups of people must be identified, such as infants, small children, the elderly, the disabled, the unconscious, the confused and the persecuted.
A procedural instruction should summarise the precautionary measures to be taken and how patients' rights may be restricted and restored and by whom. It should regulate, for example, how to proceed in an emergency that leaves no time for information and consent. Appropriate precautions should be taken for patients, e.g. in a state of unconsciousness, confusion, incompetence, disagreement between legal representatives or if the reasons for a measure cannot be fully explained to the patient or the patient is not aware of the reasons (cancer).
It regulates when the hospital assumes special protective tasks for patients in dangerous life situations in which even adults cannot take care of themselves. Such conditions may arise, for example, in cases of drug and alcohol abuse, neglect, maltreatment, abuse and exploitation.
Appropriate monitoring measures must be introduced.

Employees must be regularly informed about their duties of protection in this regard.
