Estimated reading: 1 minute 897 views Authors

Goal and purpose

To avoid patient mix-ups, a secure procedure for identifying patients must be introduced. At least two identifiers should be used for identification, e.g. name, date of birth, a wristband with a barcode or similar. The procedure applies to all areas and is carried out before every medical intervention such as cannulation, blood transfusion, medication, diagnostic or therapeutic intervention, diet, radiotherapy.
