1 Purpose and objective

The hospital management appoints at least one PS officer who reports directly to the hospital management. The PS officer is directly responsible to the hospital management for his or her activities

2 Scope of application

The patient safety officer is responsible for the entire hospital

3 Description

The tasks of the Patient Safety Officer are in particular

1. participation in the further development of the safety culture in the hospital,

2. participating in and coordinating the development and implementation of measures to increase patient safety,

3. assessment of the clinical risks for the hospital as a whole and for the individual organisational units with the involvement of the respective responsible persons and representatives,

4. preparation of an annual report

5. processing of enquiries

The Patient Safety Officers are organisationally assigned to QM Coordination

The Ministry responsible for the hospital sector shall be notified of the appointment of the patient safety officer, together with his or her name and address and qualifications.

Patient safety officers must have a qualification in the field of clinical risk management, which is demonstrated by at least 20 hours of further training. Patient safety officers must take part in eight hours of training annually in the field of patient safety or clinical risk management.edit

9.2 Terms

Risk assessment involves systematically recognising, evaluating, managing and monitoring clinical risks. Information from quality management tools, in particular from the reporting systems for adverse events and complaints management, must be used for this risk assessment.
